Born in the Bronx, Allen C. Dawson is a native New Yorker. His first love was music and quote, “I used to play recorder which is a reed instrument similar to the clarinet, and the tuba which was the original bass instrument in jazz. I even experimented with the baritone and sang. I was sure I’d become a musician and play in a big band someday but my mother abruptly ended my career when she took my horn away”.
However, that didn’t kill his love for music or his artistic instincts because by divine intervention he began a conversation with a man named Robert Winston one day who unbeknownst to him turned out to be a director who stated, “I think you’d make a good actor and I teach a class of working professionals. Why don’t you come and join us?
According to Allen quote, “I was a bit skeptical of his motives but it wasn’t long before I accepted his invitation and checked out his class”.
And, on that note of skepticism he began his acting career and has numerous credits on stage, in commercials and film. Allen says, “I always felt I had a story to tell and even when I’m on stage interpreting someone else’s story what I’m actually doing is revealing fragments of my own-true- life story”.
“Acting and writing have allowed me to explore my personal character in detail and deal with life in a way that’s manageable”.
According to him, “I believe in all things spiritual and it’s God who sustains me. I try to stay in touch with my inner self and search for truth”.
Maybe that’s why he demonstrates such a sincere interest in important social issues. He loves talking to people and he facilitates a monthly discussion group that’s open to the public.
He is currently enrolled at New York University where he’s furthering his education and looking forward to contributing to student body politics.
They say that we’re the sum of our experiences and Allen has a lot to contribute. He’s an honorably discharged veteran, he’s contributed to building the New York skyline, been a longshoreman, professional salesman, activist, fundraiser, accomplished artist and producer.
And, if you haven’t already been told he’s an excellent cook and vegan baker.
According to Allen quote, “I think the stars are aligned right and that I have a great future. I’m looking forward to returning to television”. |
